How did you first become interested in your line of business? (if owner) - What is your background? (If owner or store manager)
Maria Brown, Owner
Maria began ballroom dancing in 1995. While majoring in Drama at New York University, she became president of the NYU Ballroom Dance Club and Captain of the Team, competing for three years on the collegiate circuit. While in NY, she studied with Richard and Bonnie Diaz, John Knapp and Meredith Stead. Since moving to New England, she has studied with Michael Ulbrich, Natasha Thayer, Russell Jackson, Suzanne Hamby and Larinda McRaven. She first taught ballroom at DNE School of Dance in Chelmsford, MA and then went on to teach from her own Studio 44 in Auburn, NH. Maria opened Paper Moon Dance Center with her husband Dave in June of 2003. In 2005 she placed sixth at Yankee Classic and third at the North American DanceSport Championships in the Rising Star American Rhythm category, after only 10 weeks of dancing with her partner Brian Barakauskas. She currently competes in the Rising Star American Smooth category with partner Ray Huard, and just placed third at the Stardust Open Dancesport Championships.
How do you differentiate yourself from other businesses in your category and area?
Our facility features:
-two discrete dance floors totaling over 5,000 square feet of floating solid maple floor, specifically designed and built with ballroom dancing in mind.
-a 5-zone state-of-the-art computerized sound system
-an elegant decor based on a misty gray, accented in a deep midnight blue.
-a dual lighting system with bright florescent fixtures for lessons and classes with dimmable incandescent wall sconces and recessed lights for the evening social dances.

We accept Visa and Mastercard, as well as cash and checks.
Which areas do you service?
Ballroom dancing is kind of a catch-all term used to classify any of a number of lead-and-follow partner dances. The most common dances fall into two categories: Smooth such as Waltz and Foxtrot and Rhythm which includes some Latin dances (such as cha-cha and rumba) as well as swing. At most social ballroom dances, you will also see an occasional New York Hustle.
Everyone learns at a different pace - experience, coordination, commitment, and choice of dances are all factors. We recommend that you participate in a combination of private lessons, group classes, and social dances, which will help you to learn quickly and retain the new information. As a very informal frame of reference, we are confident that we can have you dancing comfortably at your next wedding reception after about 6 private lessons.
